Art Nouveau art and architecture appeared in late Victorian days, between 1895-1915. It featured stylized nature, including flowers, insects and animals, rivers & water, and sometimes nudes. This was the same time that electricity was new and catching on for lamps and lighting. The wattage of early electric bulbs was low, so it was common for homes to have a ceiling light, plus wall sconces and floor or table lamps as supplemental light.
