Art Nouveau style is distinguished by its references to nature - swirling leaves, flowers, branches , animals, sea creatures, and sometimes nudes . These elements were found in art nouveau hardware and antique lighting , as well as art. Popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's, stylized natural designs were less ornate than fussy Victorian lighting , but not as simplified as Art Deco 's geometric, streamline influence. We offer reproduction antique chandeliers and antique sconces to blend with the art nouveau period.
Art Nouveau lighting and art accessories were used in Mission, Arts & Crafts, bungalow, prairie style, and Edwardian homes, as well as Victorian. It provided graceful artistic accents against the straight simple Mission style. Art Nouveau is still popular today, especially in Tiffany style lamps and waterfall furniture hardware .
