This is a lever operated door bell from early America, which pre-dates the similar-looking twist door bell. Our lever bell is completely lost wax cast in solid brass, which ensures that the bell will last many generations.
This bell can be mounting directly for through-door working, or used with a chain for offset mounting. The bell is mounted on the interior side of a door, and is then activated by a lever handle on the outside of the door. It's offered in two finishes, bright polished brass which is unlacquered and will tarnish to a lovely patina over time; or darkened "antique" finish, which has been lacquered to retain its color.
The matching lever handles to activate this bell are sold separately, in case you may already have an original lever handle. Please see the matching reproduction lever handles that would be mounted on the outside of the door in this section of our website. They include the Eastlake palm press lever, the classic Dog Lever, an Aesthetic palm lever, and another Aesthetic lever of a different design.
This bell has an outside diameter of 4 3/4", and the mounting screw tabs add an extra 1/2" each.
