Art Deco Long 6-Shade Chandelier by Markel...The 9500-A Line (ANT-1340)

ANT-1340  Art Deco Long 6-Shade Chandelier by Markel...The 9500-A Line

Antique Art Deco 6 LONG slip shade Chandelier by Markel. This chandelier, circa 1935, was part of Markel’s "9500-A series". This chandelier was Model 9537, which was top of the line for this 9500-A series. Markel’s 1930’s catalog says it has a spread of 18 ½”.

Markel was one of the biggest companies working during the Great Depression and had locations in America and Canada and Australia. They made a lot of the antique slip shade fixtures that are found in the antique shops today and were a quality company.

While the 9500 Line was solid bronze or Red Bronze finish, the 9500-A was...as stated by Markel...”Cast Aluminum”...finish. All that description simply means that they used “mixed” metals in the construction. And by our tests, this light is no exception. The bowl seems to be one metal while the struts and other parts are solid brass, all finished to a Red-Bronze finish that is very attractive.

This chandelier is in wonderful condition. The shades are simply a treat and in remarkable condition with one exception; the bottom shade has some roughness around the center mounting-hole. It is well hidden by the metal cover that goes over it...but it is under there. One final note is that a metal tip, from one of the shade holders, has been broken off. It was simply a minor decoration...but needs to be mentioned as this is simply due to age/use (picture is presented).

It must be noted that the five slip shades do not “perfectly” match the bottom shade. This was common due to the different times that they were made...but should be mentioned, as it is a rather ubiquitous situation with Art Deco lighting.

As normal, this chandelier was totally re-wired in our UL shop and therefore is ready to hang immediately after it arrives. All mounting hardware will be supplied per UL instructions and guidelines.

Measurements: As stated by the original Markel catalog: diameter is 18 1/2” with a hang height of 32”, that can be lengthen...if...a longer hang height is desired.

Price: $1,450.00, plus careful shipping.
