Streamline Light
Streamline Light
One of the better known periods of antique lighting is the Art Deco Streamline era. We see this ultra modern looking fixtures in movies from the 1930's, and they blend well with contemporary furnishings today.
High Quality: More important than anything else whether you're building new construction, or restoring an older building, is finding high quality streamline light . Remember that your lighting is an investment. You can likely find cheap options out there that seem as though they'll do the job. However, when the reproduction lights are of poor quality and don't function correctly, or aren't true to the period, you'll soon wish you'd spent a few more dollars to get a higher quality product.
Experience:
As you look for companies who provide reproduction streamline light, choose a company that has a lot of experience. Getting the best product requires several things that an experienced company is simply going to be better at. For example, an experienced company will understand the history behind the lighting and will be able to provide those details that make it really authentic. They'll have worked with the best suppliers and will know to create just what you're looking for. At Vintage Hardware & Lighting, we're so dedicated to the Art Deco period in lighting, we operate a nonprofit Art Deco Light Museum that's open every day, at no charge to the public. We offer restored chandeliers and sconces, as well as reproductions.
Variety:
You may think that you want a company that specializes in the particular type of antique art deco streamline light that you're looking for. However, you want to think about your long term needs as well as your short term needs. If you have needs for Victorian lighting in the future, or Arts and Crafts, or any other type of vintage lighting, it's better if you've already found a company that you enjoy doing business with. As a result, choose a company that can create various types of vintage lighting.
Passion:
You don't want to choose a company who simply creates vintage streamline light because they see a profit in it. While you might get an OK product, you're likely to miss out on some of the little things that a company like Vintage Hardware & Lighting can provide. When a company is truly passionate about their lighting, they won't settle for anything less than their very best.
That's why we cast our reproduction streamline lights from original antiques, using lost wax casting, in solid brass. We also reproduce authentic streamline glass shades.
References:
As you consider the companies that offer streamline light, consider who their past customers have been. For example Vintage Hardware has not only provided lighting for various movie sets, they actually worked on lighting for the White House, and many government buildings in Canada. When you consider the resources that the White House has available, and that they chose Vintage Hardware, it's easy to see that we are a good choice.
