Truly chic homes of the Victorian era would boast at least one window ornamented with mirror curtain tiebacks, usually one of the front parlors, or dining rooms. The mirror reflected precious light from the gaslight fixtures.
The Oval head is 6" long by 3 1/2" wide, with a nice cut glass design on the mirror. Overall:10 3/4" long which is the head plus strap.
