Reading Hardware, in 1885, made one of the most accepted designs of the late Victorian era. They called the design “Windsor”. The design elements found a very warm acceptance by the Victorian builders and home owners of that time and today as well.
To our existing Windsor line, we are adding ZPT-24 lever handle. In keeping with the high end nature of this line, the lever handle is both large and heavy and most carefully cast by the lost wax method. Each handle weighs nearly a pound. The handle is sold by each so you can have a lever on both sides, or a doorknob on the other side.
While this casting weight is admirable, it also forces a consideration when using it. Most mortise and passage locks have rather weak springs in them so that the handles will be easy to open. Using locks, by themselves, with a lever handle weighing in at about a pound, is not recommended. Lock springs, by themselves, will usually NOT have enough power to bring the lever handle back into the correct position. We suggest, therefore, the use of our L-62LH spring helper to be installed on each backplate or rose used on a door.
You can buy the L-62LH by itself for installation on your backplate of choice....or....purchase a backplate which already has the L-62LH installed therein. Most common and recommended backplate for the ZPT-24 lever handle is ZB-13SH Windsor patter door plate which is our ZB-13 Windsor backplate with L-62LH already installed.
If you would like a different pattern spring assisted backplate, consider the Victorian narrow style door plate ZLW-249 available as ZLW-249SH . For a lovely formal French appearance, ZLW-106 is available as ZLW-106SH where “SH” stands for the “Spring Helper” device being added.

ZPT-24 is normally supplied in an antique antique brass finish to match the ZB-13SH backplate, but we also offer the currently popular dark Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish..
