869-6LA-CH Aesthetic Fine SIX-Light Chandelier with Longwy-Style Porcelain
This is the only known American Aesthetic period (1870-95) re-created chandelier. It carries re-created French Longwy engraved Porcelains (after the manner of Mitchell Vance and Thackara of 1870+).
Aesthetic lighting. Often termed Japanesque (by appraisers and dealers), was considered a design finesse of this 1870-95 Victorian period. One of the most sought after items were these chandeliers that used a French-ENGRAVED porcelain that did resemble the sought-after Asian porcelains of the time. This 1870 French company was Longwy, which is known extremely well in the antique world. Because this hand carved porcelain takes days to produce, true hand-made porcelain requires patience and time. The Aesthetic movement motto of “Art for Art’s Sake” is reflected in the slow and meticulous creation of these porcelains. It just does not lend itself to big production. Hence: one at a time...and…being hand-made...no two are perfectly alike. For a lighting maker, it means that you have to adjust each hand made metal part to fit each hand made porcelain part. But...if you love the Aesthetic movement and its hand-made lighting...then...this might be for you.
Measurements: This fine chandelier is 38” in diameter with the Crown shades shown. Also showing a crystal shade possibility.
As pictured, it is hanging at 54” to the bottom of the center finial but can be shortened to as much as 35”; but the center stem metal decor is eliminated at this shortest height.
The Crown Shades shown are correct for both style and the period. Unlike other lights that we make, these shades ARE included in the price.
If the cut crystal shade is chosen instead, a shade discount will apply.
Due to the hand made nature of this chandelier, they are built one at a time. Lead-time is about 30 days from the date of the order.
Price: This fine, recreated, Aesthetic 6-arm Chandelier with shades…$8,750.00, plus crating and shipping fees.
*The four-arm version has been discontinued.
